GVPT Professors Cunningham and Birnir Awarded Global Religion Research Initiative Grants
Notre Dame's Global Religion Research Initiative recently announced the recipients of grant funding for 2017. Two GVPT faculty members won first round awards.
The Global Religion Research Initiative provides scholars interested in pursuing questions "related to the structure, practice, and influence of religions worldwide with resources to complete their work."
Dr. Birnir received support for her book project which "explores the conditions under which religious similarities across distinct ethnic groups contribute to conflict." And Dr. Cunningham won funding to study the how "variation in religious theology ... and the demographic strength of religiously identified groups" affects their choice of violent or nonviolent actions against the state.
More information about the grant initiative and Professors Birnir or Cunningham's respective projects is available at GRRI's website.
