UMD Department of Government and Politics Climbs in U.S. News Rankings

Ranked No. 26 Nationally in Political Science

Ranked No. 10 Among Public Universities 

We are excited to announce that the Government and Politics (GVPT) Department at the University of Maryland has been recognized as the No. 26 political science program in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, rising two spots. 

The Government and Politics Department ranked No. 10 among public universities for political science, rising two spots. This recognition highlights the department’s ongoing commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and preparing students for success.

“I am extremely proud that our department has been recognized for their innovative research and training of students to be future leaders. We have made several important new faculty hires, invested in cutting edge research, increased support of our graduate students, and expanded our undergraduate curriculum.” said Department Chair Antoine Banks. “It is a real honor to be recognized by our peers as a top political science department.”
