GVPT Business Coordinator Terecita Maxey Celebrates 5 Years of Service at UMD
Terecita Maxey, Business Coordinator in the Department of Government and Politics (GVPT), is celebrating a significant milestone—five years of dedicated service at the University of Maryland. Since joining the department in 2023, Terecita has exemplified professionalism and excellence in her role and also brought warmth and joy that has made a lasting impact on colleagues, students, and the broader UMD community.
Her contributions extend beyond the daily tasks of HR-related and business operations. Terecita is known for her commitment, teamwork, and the passion she brings to supporting others—whether she's sharing resources, helping faculty and staff navigate processes, or working to improve the consistency and quality of HR services. Everyone in the GVPT department, along with colleagues across campus, truly values her thoughtful presence and tireless dedication.
Reflecting on her five-year journey, Terecita shared what this milestone means to her: "Having the opportunity to be part of a wonderful community of Terps. From students and faculty to staff and visitors, they are being immersed in the excellence that UMD offers as the state's flagship institution."
Among the many moments that have stood out during her time at UMD, one memory shines especially bright: meeting President Darryll Pines and receiving her Terp Pin, which she proudly wears to all university and departmental events. Another unforgettable experience was witnessing the iconic campus M being relocated in preparation for the Purple Line construction—a symbol of change and progress she observed firsthand while working in the Clarence Mitchell Building.
When asked what keeps her going each day, Terecita's answer reflects the heart of her work: "Knowing I'm making a difference in someone's life. Whether they're here in the U.S. or coming from abroad to pursue their dreams of education and a future career." She takes pride in being a problem-solver and innovator, often finding solutions to complex challenges and watching her ideas come to life.
For Terecita, the most rewarding part of her role is getting to know the people behind the university, building relationships not only within GVPT but also across the campus. Looking ahead, she's excited for what's to come. "I'm looking forward to seeing those around me grow from caterpillars to butterflies," she said. "And I can't wait to watch some of our students become famous."
Please join us in congratulating Terecita Maxey on this meaningful achievement. Her work, presence, and passion make GVPT and UMD a better place every day.
