  • GVPT Faculty Coordinator Megan Miller Elected To University Senate As Exempt Staff Representative

The Department of Government and Politics (GVPT) is proud to announce that Megan Miller, GVPT Faculty Coordinator, has been elected to represent Exempt Staff in the University Senate—one of the largest and most influential governing bodies at the University of Maryland.

Megan brings experience and insight to this role, having previously served as a Senate representative for Postdoctoral Associates and PTK Faculty Assistants prior to transitioning into her current staff position.

“I was motivated to run for the University Senate because I think it’s important to have a diverse group of voices in our university governance, and I wanted to be more involved in the UMD community,” Megan shared. “Currently, many exempt staff representatives are at the Director level or very well-established in their careers. I hope to bring a different perspective as someone in a coordinator position and new to a staff role.”

Megan’s priorities include ensuring a broad range of staff perspectives are considered in university decision-making and increasing staff engagement in Senate activity.

“From my previous experience as a senator, I noticed that engagement tends to be stronger from certain departments and often comes more from faculty than staff. I want to bridge that gap by staying informed about university leadership discussions and sharing relevant information back with our staff.”

We’re excited to see Megan’s impact as she steps into this important leadership role, representing not just GVPT, but voices across the staff community.
