  • GVPT Student Elizabeth Mazer Completes Legislative Internship With Maryland Delegate Elizabeth Embry
Elizabeth Mazer

As the 2025 Maryland General Assembly session came to a close, Department of Government & Politics (GVPT) student Elizabeth Mazer wrapped up an extraordinary experience as a Legislative Intern in the office of Delegate Elizabeth Embry, representing Baltimore City’s District 43A.

Over the course of the session, Elizabeth played an integral role in the legislative process. She attended Judiciary Committee hearings, tracked key pieces of legislation, conducted policy research, and engaged with advocacy groups and constituents—gaining valuable insight into how public policy is shaped at the state level.

“This position has truly been one of the highlights of my UMD experience,” Elizabeth shared. “Most of all, I really appreciated the in-depth knowledge I gained about Maryland’s policy process and current legislative issues.”

Elizabeth credits her success to the supportive environment created by Delegate Embry and her team, her co-intern Adele Smith, the Department of Government & Politics, and Sam Novey, Center for Democracy and Civic Engagement (CDCE) Chief Strategist, for their continued support and guidance—from the application process to check-ins throughout the internship.

Her experience exemplifies the kind of applied learning GVPT encourages—connecting classroom knowledge with real-world impact.

“I’m excited to continue learning and contributing to meaningful change in Maryland,” she said.

GVPT congratulates Elizabeth on a successful session and looks forward to seeing how her passion for public service continues to grow.
