The Department of Government and Politics is proud to recognize two outstanding students, Ana Paz and Anna-Kaye McDonald, who have been selected to serve as student speakers at the University of Maryland’s College of Behavioral and Social Sciences Commencement Ceremonies on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Ana Paz will speak at Ceremony #1. She is graduating with dual degrees in Government and Politics and Economics, with a concentration in International Relations. During her time at UMD, Ana served on the BSOS Dean’s Student Advisory Council and the Student Services Committee, and interned with the Maryland Democratic Party. She continues to apply her academic background in work that supports strategic growth and community impact.

Anna-Kaye McDonald will speak at Ceremony #2. She is earning dual degrees in Government and Politics and Criminology and Criminal Justice, along with minors in Law and Society and Public Leadership. A highly engaged student leader, Anna-Kaye was involved in organizations including Kappa Omega Alpha, Phi Alpha Delta, the Caribbean Students Association, and the Black Pre-Law Students Association. She also completed several internships focused on legislative research, legal advocacy, and public service.

Please join us in congratulating Ana, Anna-Kaye, and all of our GVPT graduates this spring. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the future.
