Inside the GVPT Methods Workshop
The Methods Workshop in the Department of Government & Politics (GVPT) is a space for students and faculty to discuss research designs and methodological strategies — quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods — across a wide range of substantive areas. The workshop brings together internal and external speakers to share new approaches, tools, and challenges in political science research.
This semester, on November 7, Sebastián Vallejo Vera (Assistant Professor, University of Western Ontario) presented in the workshop on placing politicians and citizens on the same ideological scale using pretrained transformer models.
Next semester, the workshop will host Joan Timoneda (Assistant Professor, Purdue University), who will present his work on large language models (LLMs).
All students and faculty are welcome to attend. Join us to explore new methodological tools and connect with the GVPT research community.
For any questions, please contact GVPT Assistant Professor Giancarlo Visconti at gvis@umd.edu.
