Kris Miler Promoted to Full Professor
The Department of Government and Politics is pleased to announce the promotion of Kris Miler to Full Professor.
Miler is a scholar of American politics whose research focuses on political representation, legislative politics, interest groups, and the U.S. Congress. Her work examines how elected officials respond to constituents and how political institutions shape representation and policymaking.
She is the author of two books on Congress and representation, including Poor Representation: Congress and the Politics of Poverty in the United States, which received the American Political Science Association's Best Book Award. Her research has been supported by organizations including the National Science Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, Democracy Fund, and the Dirksen Center.
In addition to her research accomplishments, Miler is an award-winning teacher who regularly teaches courses on legislative politics, interest groups, and social movements. She serves as Director of Graduate Studies in the department and is a Faculty Affiliate with the Center for Effective Lawmaking (University of Virginia and Vanderbilt University).
Promotion to Full Professor is one of the highest academic distinctions awarded to faculty members and recognizes sustained excellence in research, teaching, mentorship, and service.
