  • Professors Scott Kastner and Margaret Pearson Weigh-in On Trump Administration's Approach To China
Joseph Dunford meets Xi Jinping

Is China working with or against the global order? What does the Trump administration's confrontational approach miss about China?

Department professors Scott Kastner and Margaret Pearson recently penned a Washington Post Monkey Cage article along with co-author, Dr. Chad Rector, from Marymount University that provides some answers.

Their piece highlights the nuances of China's engagement with the global order. In particular, they paint a multidimensional picture of China's behavior that departs from the simple 'status quo' versus 'revisionist' power narratives. The article also discusses the US-China trade war and the challenges China faces is assuming greater global leadership.

The article is based on findings from their book (forthcoming) entitled China's Strategic Multilateralism: Investing in Global Governance from Cambridge University Press.
