Giving Day
At the Department of Government and Politics, we prepare our students to “be the solution" and become leaders in government, law, and public service. Today, you can directly support their success by contributing to six key funds that provide hands-on learning, expand access to opportunities, and advance vital research.

Here’s more about each fund:

moot

Dr. Michael O. Spivey Moot Court Program Support Fund

These funds are used to help students step into the shoes of Supreme Court counsel as they sharpen their legal reasoning, public speaking, and advocacy skills. Your support provides faculty mentorship and experiences that prepare them for careers in law and beyond.

global

GVPT Global Learning Program Fund

The GVPT Global Learning Program Fund ensures all students—regardless of financial background—have access to global experiential learning. Your gift funds travel grants and subsidizes trips to Washington, D.C., connecting students with real-world political institutions and global perspectives.

wayne

Wayne V. McIntosh Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship Fund

Created to honor the legacy of Wayne V. McIntosh, this fund by supports outstanding GVPT undergraduates with financial need. Your generosity helps outstanding undergraduates pursue careers in government, law, and public service.

sadat

The Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development Operating Fund

The Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development Operating Fund is dedicated to advancing dialogue for peace and justice, bridging the gap between academic research and policy, and maintaining a rigorous research agenda that supports the global pursuit of peace.

mock

Mock Trial Fund

These funds are used to provide students with the opportunity to develop critical thinking, public speaking, and advocacy skills through competitive mock trial experiences. Coached by attorneys and law professors, participants gain valuable courtroom experience.

cdce

Center for Democracy and Civic Engagement (CDCE) Fund

These funds are used to help mobilize the full power of UMD’s network to build a more just, inclusive, and participatory democracy. Your support strengthens civic engagement, fuels student-led initiatives, and impactful research that shapes policies for the future.

Watch this video to see how past gifts have transformed the lives of our students and alumni, empowering them to succeed in their academic and professional journeys.

Maryland Giving Day is your chance to be part of something bigger. Your support doesn’t just fund programs—it creates opportunities, shapes futures, and drives real change.
