Joe received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska, majoring in Philosophy and Political Science, with minors in History and International Studies. He also obtained an MA in Political Science at Nebraska, specializing in the study of human rights through the Forsythe Family Program on Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs. After coming to Washington, DC where he worked at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Joe joined the Department of Government and Politics at the University of Maryland to work on a PhD in 2012.

Areas of Interest

  • Joe's research interests include identifying practical ways to build individual and social commitments to human rights. Other research interests include political psychology, political communication, bargaining theory, and political philosophy.
