Stephen Elkin received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1969. He taught at Smith College and the University of Pennsylvania before coming to Maryland where he joined the faculty in 1975. While on the faculty he was appointed Distinguished Scholar-Teacher. He is the author and editor of seven books and numerous journal articles and is the Founding Editor of the journal The Good Society as well as the founder of the Committee on the Political Economy of  the Good Society.
