I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Government and Politics at the University of Maryland. I earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology from Sungkonghoe University and a master’s degree in political science from Korea University.

My research broadly centers on the effects of violence in contentious politics. Specifically, it focuses on investigating how protesters’ responses to internal and external violence shape a range of outcomes, including protest mobilization, tactical decisions, and fragmentation. My research is broadening its scope by examining how the responses of past protests to violence influence the consequences of future protests. To support my arguments, I utilize multiple sets of techniques derived from regression, case studies, text mining, and network analysis.
