Evelyn, Zihan Zhu is a PhD student at the GVPT Department with a primary field in International Relations and a secondary field in Comparative Politics.

Zihan currently studies Japan's foreign policy (and its hedging practices) and how domestic actors shape international trade preferences. His master's thesis, "Japan's FOIP concept and its evolving hedging pathway", contends Japan's evolution in security strategy using comparative case studies of the "free and open Indo-Pacific" (FOIP) concept and the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue.

Zihan also takes some interest in electoral politics (and specifically political dynasties in democracies), political institutions, and the emerging trend of global authoritarianism.
