GVPT Professor Stella Rouse recently appeared in the Washington Post's Monkey Cage blog to examine adherence to COVID-19 preventative measures across racial groups. Her findings show that despite the assertion by some politicians, and long-standing stereotypes about how communities of color's poorer health results from their bad behavior, minorities are actually more likely to say they wear masks and follow social distancing. The COVID-19 health disparities in minority communities are not due to a lack of adherence to preventative measure, but to structural inequalities such as discrimination, limited health care access, and occupations with higher risk of exposure.
